About DAS

Lee Siang

Mr Lee Siang has over twenty years of experience in leadership and management of which 12 years was at the senior level in non-profit organisations.

Siang observes that "unlike other industries, work in a non-profit organization gives you immense satisfaction that your efforts are helping clients who need your support and who are likely to not receive it otherwise !" After a successful stint with the Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) where he still holds the national service rank of Major, Siang was first the General Manager of the Medical Alliance Corporation, a medical supplier with over 300 retail clients and 21 franchise outlets in Singapore. He was subsequently the General Manager of the Singapore Thong Chai Medical Institution, a training and research institute which also sees up to 800 outpatients a day and is possibly the oldest non-profit organisation in Singapore.

Siang joined the DAS in December 2001 and has played a key role in the rapid growth of the DAS into a thriving social enterprise with a multi-disciplinary professional work force that provides a continuum of psychological, educational and training services for over 1,800 dyslexic students, their teachers and parents in 10 centres all over Singapore and the region. He emphasizes that the "DAS must strive to fulfill our social mission by combining entrepreneurial and business skills with the philanthropic characteristics of non-profit organisations".

Siang was a student at one of Singapore's premier schools - Raffles Institution. A keen sportsman, he was captain of the Singapore Combined Schools Rugby Team in 1985. Siang obtained his Bachelor's Degree from the National University of Singapore via the sponsorship of a Singapore Armed Forces Training Award. He also has a Postgraduate Diploma in Financial Management from the Singapore Institute of Management, a Masters in Business Administration from the University of Western Australia, a Certificate in Dyslexia Studies and a Postgraduate Certificate in Teaching and Learning in Higher Education from the London Metropolitan University. He is presently completing a Masters in Specific Learning Differences, also with the London Metropolitan University. It is this unique balance of experiences and qualifications that has allowed Siang to oversee the diverse services and functions of the DAS.
